Our designers and surveyors are working with commercial and domestic properties across Gloucester.

Aesthetic Design Features

Our designers and surveyors have years of experience working with many customers across the UK and Gloucester. Over the years they have produced some of the finest designs in pattern imprinted concrete and we are privileged to be working with such creative and skilled people.

In the design and planning stage of your paving our designers and surveyors will take note of every little detail you provide them with including size, shapes, colours, textures and patterns to ensure the final outcome will look exactly how you want it.

If you want your patio or driveway to match the look of your home or garden this can be achieved by blending the hard landscaping of the driveway and patio areas with areas for soft landscaping such as flower beds against borders, planting areas for specimen trees and shrubs or feature gravel and shingle areas, perhaps with ornamental alpine plants.

Steps and Ramps

If you have a steps or ramp as part of a feature in your patio or driveway we can re-build and match it to your imprinted pattern concrete design.  We can form a shaped step or steps, in semi-firm concrete or a combination of steps and ramps to satisfy both Building Regulations or disabled access requirements. We can apply None slip surface treatments to ensure safety and a soldier course of cobble or brick effect border will be integrated into the pattern imprinted concrete design.

As Pre-cast concrete steps from a builder’s merchant can ruin a new Decorative Concrete Specialists pattern imprinted concrete driveway or patio are we don’t install them.

Drainage, Planning Permission and Building Regulations

In most cases planning permission doesn’t usually apply to the installation of pattern imprinted concrete paving if your new driveway uses permeable or porous surfacing which allows surface water to drain through, or if the rainwater on a non-porous surface is directed to a lawn or border to drain naturally. If an existing porous surface of more than five square metres between the front of the property and the public highway is converted to a non-porous area such as pattern imprinted concrete, then planning permission is still NOT required providing surface rain water is directed to a lawn or border to drain naturally and not to the road or to existing mains drains.

What is a Rain Garden?

We have introduced this feature to many homes throughout Gloucester, it consists of featuring a depression along the edge of the pattern imprinted concrete driveway or patio at the low point. The depression can be filled with plants, flowers, gravel or decorative cobbles. The idea of a rain garden is to comply with the new rules set in 2008.

To comply with these regulations Decorative Concrete Specialists will generally use a combination of aco drains, French drains, land drains and soakaways. Be rest assured that all of our imprinted concrete pattern driveways and patios are all unique and different and our designers and surveyors can give you the best recommendations for which type of drainage is best suitable to your project.  Where planning permission is shown to be required, we will make an application on your behalf.

If you have a manhole this may need replacing as part of your pattern imprinted concrete driveway or patio installation. Here at Decorative Concrete Specialists we use recessed tray covers because or their performance and durability. They come in a range of sizes and have either a five ton or ten ton rating depending on the type of traffic the surface is used for. A recessed cover over a manhole allows us to infill with pattern imprinted concrete which we can then colour to match it the rest of the design and colour.

Building Regulations do not generally apply to paving, though we will need to ensure that when the installation takes place we do not make any alterations to your home. Again, our designers and surveyors can advise you in your particular circumstances.

Concrete Crack Control Design

In some cases there is always the threat of cracking when concrete expands so we take extra precautions and care to ensure this does not happen.

In certain conditions concrete can expand or contra. As part of the design process ct slightly which can cause cracking of the surfacefor all pattern imprinted concrete installations by Decorative Concrete Specialists, all of our designers and surveyors take seriously the threat of cracking and ‘design in’ a number of precautions. The pattern imprinted concrete paving design can be arranged so as to disguise crack control joints and with clever design can often enhance the appearance. All crack control joints cut into pattern imprinted concrete driveways and patios installed by Decorative Concrete Specialists will have the crack control joints filled with mastic, which where possible will match closely the colour of the new driveway or patio.

Decorative Concrete Specialists offer Driveways, Patios, Wallcrete and Commercial work across Gloucester and other nearby areas.
